Operational Director
Sharon Loane
As I reflect on three decades of my nursing career, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the journey that has unfolded before me. From the frontline as a registered nurse to the dynamic role of an operational manager at the Sanville Group of Care Homes, every step has been a learning experience, a challenge, and a source of immense fulfilment. My journey began as a registered nurse in 1993, where every day brought new opportunities to make a difference in the lives of patients. The hospital environment was my training ground, teaching me the importance of empathy, resilience, and effective communication. I entered the independent sector in 1997, working in various positions. I have worked as a Home Manager for almost 7 years in my nursing career. Taking on the role of a home manager, I discovered the unique challenges and rewards of caring for individuals in a more personalised setting. This role marked the beginning of my desire to understand and deliver holistic care and have a deeper understanding of the diverse needs of those persons entering a care home. In the pursuit of enhancing the quality of care, I found myself drawn towards training. During these years , I dedicated myself to imparting knowledge and skills to those working in healthcare. This role allowed me to experience the learning and development of caregivers into confident professionals, reinforcing the importance of continuous education in our field. The next phase of my career took an unexpected turn as I embraced the responsibility of an RQIA (Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority) inspector. Four years spent in this role provided me with a unique perspective on the industry. Conducting inspections allowed me to advocate for the highest standards of care and ensure that the facilities I visited were meeting the stringent regulatory requirements. In June 2018, I took on the role of Operational Manager at the Sanville Group of Care Homes. This position has been both challenging and immensely rewarding. Overseeing the operations of multiple care homes has given me the opportunity to apply my years of experience in a leadership capacity. Collaborating with dedicated teams, we strive to create an environment that not only meets regulatory standards but exceeds them, ensuring the well-being of every resident under our care. As I look back on my 30-year journey in nursing, I am filled with a profound sense of purpose and accomplishment. From the bedside to the boardroom, every role has contributed to my growth as a healthcare professional. The road ahead may be unknown, but with the lessons learned over the years and the passion that fuels my commitment to care, I am eager to embrace the next chapter in this ever-evolving adventure.
