Join our Couch to 5k Challenge

Writer: JaneJane

Get ready to run (or walk)!

Inspired by a challenge between our Director Patrick McAvoy and Accounts Administrator Nadine Burden, Sanville Group is launching a company-wide 5k challenge for all staff and their family members (the more the merrier). Join us as we train from March to May, culminating in a 5k walk, jog or run on the weekend of 24th/25th May 2025. Or, if you’ve already completed a 5K, why not set yourself the challenge of setting a new PB?

When & Where is the final challenge?

After completing your training, there are a few final race options for you to choose from:

  1. The Newell Stores 5k: Sunday 25 May (£12 entry, proceeds to Cystic Fibrosis and Marie Curie. Sanville Group is a sponsor! Includes race atmosphere, pacers, medals, food and drinks.) REGISTER HERE

  2. Parkruns (Saturday 24 May @ 9:30 am): It's free to register, but you have to do it before you run and must take your barcode along with you on the day - Register here. There are a few parkruns that take place near our Care Homes...

    1. Dungannon Parkrun: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/armagh/

    2. MUSA Parkrun: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/musacookstown/

    3. Armagh Parkrun: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/dungannonpark/

    4. Enniskillen Parkrun: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/enniskillen/

How to Train:

  • For those choosing to run or jog it, we'll be following the NHS Couch to 5k program, a 9-week plan designed for beginners. You can download an app and it involves 3 runs a week with rest days in between, gradually increasing your running time. It's a great way to improve your fitness and stamina and you can choose the likes of Jo Whiley, Sarah Millican or Steve Cram to cheer you on throughout! Find out more about it HERE. Download the Couch to 5K App on Google Play or The App store.

  • We’ll also organise some additional (and optional) face-to-face training sessions and will set up WhatsApp Groups to keep you motivated and updated! These will be organised by your Home Co-ordinators, who are:

    • Coalisland/Glenview - Niall Bell / Joe Gervin

    • Armagh - Danny Dougan

    • Enniskillen - TBC

Why Do It?

This is all about wellbeing, physical and mental health, but it's also about having a bit of fun. It will help you…

  • Improve your physical and mental health.

  • Boost confidence and self-belief.

  • Reduce stress.

  • Build camaraderie and team spirit within Sanville Group.

Fundraising:

We're raising money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a charity which has been nominated by Nadine Burden. We’ll give more details on the sponsorship soon, but for now you can Donate here.
