Bringing Memories to Life

Updated: Nov 21, 2023

"The best things in life are the people you love, the places you've seen and the memories you've made long the way."

As part of #artsincarehomesweek Hamilton Court and County Care Home did a memory box project; designing beautiful boxes and filling them with items telling the stories of the residents' lives.

Members of our team, from various roles, worked closely with the residents and their families to collate all the items. The boxes were filled with memory-provoking items such as classic toys, holiday snaps, wedding memorabilia and hobby items. They prompted many conversations between residents, staff and relatives - they laughed, cried and a few jaws definitely dropped!

The boxes will be left in the residents rooms so they can look through them at any time and staff and relatives can regularly go through them with residents.

Before being placed in the rooms, two of the Sanville Group Directors, Joe and Jane Gervin, went along with the Operations Manager Sharon Loane, to go through the boxes with some of the residents and staff.

Jane said: "Our Homes are very person-centred and memories are very much a part of this. This project was about giving all these memories a lovely home where they can be accessed at any time!

"It was fascinating to see the lives the residents have lived and as someone who isn't part of daily life of the Care Homes, it's helped me get to know the residents better. We have the likes of teachers, bakers, entrepreneurs, footballers, farmers and chefs living with us, and ones who have travelled to exotic places. Every lifestory is equally as interesting as the other and it's these stories that really let us personalise our care to each indivudal resident."

The Homes will now be ensuring that every new resident gets their very own memory box.

A huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard on this amazing project.
