Reflecting on our Intergenerational Christmas

Writer's picture: JaneJane

We’re halfway through January (how is that possible!) and we thought we’d take this moment to look back on what was a lovely Sanville Group Christmas. This year we embraced the true spirit of the season with some heart-warming connections between the generations. Throughout December, our homes were filled with festive cheer as children from local schools and groups visited our homes.

A Month of Merry Making at The County Care Home

Thanks to a generous grant from Linking Generations and the PHA (Public Health Agency), the County Care Home embarked on a delightful intergenerational project with children from the Model School in Enniskillen. The month was a whirlwind of festive activities, designed to bring joy to both young and old. Our residents and their young visitors rolled up their sleeves for creative sessions like wreath making and cookie decorating, and the sound of carols also filled the home creating a warm and joyful ambiance. One of the highlights was when the children participated in one of our regular RISE session, where everyone engaged in indoor snowball flights and lively games of balloon badminton. At the end of their visits, the children received selection boxes, but the real gift was the joy they shared with our residents, who were left with beaming smiles.

Talent and Tradition at Hamilton Court

The festive spirit was equally vibrant at Hamilton Court. We were delighted to welcome children from St. Patrick's Primary School, who put on a magnificent talent show. The children showcased their impressive skills, from traditional Irish dancing and instrumental performances to beautiful singing. Adding to the festive atmosphere, students from the Christian Brothers School also visited Hamilton Court to lead a beautiful carol service, as did Markethill Girl’s Brigade. The traditional hymns and readings created a peaceful and reflective atmosphere, reminding us all of the true meaning of Christmas.

Festive Songs and Future Fun at Glenview

The festive cheer extended to Glenview, where the children from Walker Memorial Primary School in Castlecaulfield entertained residents with a beautiful carol service. Their lovely singing filled the home with the spirit of Christmas. While more intergenerational activities, including a Christmas Quiz, were planned, busy schedules meant they had to be postponed. We're already looking forward to welcoming the children back in the New Year to enjoy these activities together!

The Magic of Intergenerational Connection – A Year-Round Affair

At Sanville Group, we believe in the power of intergenerational connections. These visits not only brought festive cheer to our residents but also provided valuable learning experiences for the children. You can find out more about these activities on the social media pages of our Homes.

It's always a pleasure to have children in our homes, especially around Christmas. They are always so well behaved and bring so much joy to our residents. But, friendships are for life and not just for Christmas and we're looking forward to welcoming the children back into our homes throughout the year.
